The Life of David Archuleta
At the age of ten, David Archuleta received the opportunity of a lifetime. His father surprised him with tickets to the American Idol season three finale. Upon meeting the cast of American Idol, prior to the show, David was asked to sing for them. Ryan Starr, Jim Verraros, Christina Christian, RJ Helton, Ejay Day, and Tamyra Gray; all sat in awe at the great talent this eleven year old had. It was here that David realized his potential and passion for singing. David had already developed strong musical abilities far before the age of eleven. His family moved multiple times as David was a child. Till the age of four, he was raised in Hialeah, Florida, a city made up mostly of cubans. By the age of six, David and his family moved to Sandy, Utah, it was here that David would receive his first musical opportunity. David’s parents, Lupe and Jeff Archuleta, both shared musical backgrounds. His mother Lupe, is a former salsa dancer and latin singer; his father Jeff, a former jazz musician and trumpet player at Brigham Young University, for a group called the ”Synthesis” (AceShowBiz). David is one of four children. he has three sisters and one brother: Amber, Jazzy, Claudia, and Daniel. David and his siblings were all introduced into singing from a very young age. David, age four at the time, Claudia, and Daniel were once in a children’s performing group created by their father. Here he was greeted by large crowds of adoring fans. He was asked to visit his old high school to speak to the student body as well as the Salt Lake mall to speak with more fans. A few days after coming home, Governor Jon Huntsman declared ’David Archuleta day,’ in honor of the American Idol star. David was also asked to perform the National Anthem at a Utah Jazz vs Los Angeles Lakers basketball game (CanadianPress). Although Archuleta lost the competition, he was still offered a record deal with Jive Records. Immediately after the show David began working on his first album. He hit number two on the hot one hundred singles chart, and 166,000 copies of his album were sold within the first week of sales. He later continued to make six more albums before 2014 (AceShowBiz). Following up with his new found fame, David traveled to the Philippines to star on a mini tv series called “Nandito Ako,” with co-stars Jasmine Curtis and Eula Caballero. The show broadcasted from February twentieth 2012 to June first of the same year (CanadianPress). In 2015 David left his musical career and Utah for a two-year mormon mission in Chile, for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints. During his mission David sang and performed often. He performed in multiple concerts in the Santiago Chile Temple
