Many poems were also presented at the party by our dear friends. The poems describe how they view our marriage from their own eyes. They all felt that we really stand out as a unique couple because individually, we are almost opposite in many ways and different in personality and style. How have we maintained such solid relationship for over half a century? As Jamie said, “A good photograph always has ‘Contrast’ and ‘Space’. That is so true, and so relevant to David and Joyce: the contrasts and spaces between them made it a fascinating and beautiful picture. David is full of passion, over-stuffed with energy, and project driven. Joyce is full of compassion, filled with tranquility, and a devoted reader of literature. With such contrasts, …show more content…

Consequently, I had to take care my breakfast and lunch by myself seven days a week. Sometime, I was late for my evening 5,000-step walk, I had to sneak out to do it since she prevented me to walk outside when it’s dark. When she found out I was out she would drive the car to search for me and stop me right there. It’s kind of embarrassing! My two fever sports, the horseback riding or downhill would not permitted. In the American Presidency, Alan Brinkley and Davis Dyer illustrate the scale of American Foreign Policy greatly differing from 1789 to 1861, with some presidents such as John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and James Monroe practicing Isolationism, and others such as James Madison practicing Foreign Involvement, and certain presidents such as Abraham Lincoln practicing a degree of both foreign involvement and isolationism. Many early presidents practiced isolationism because the United States was not in any position to be intervening in any foreign affairs. In Washington's farewell address, he stated that the United States should not get involved in any European affairs. During John Adam's Presidency, he was able to avoid bad relations with France despite having to deal with the XYZ affair, in which French…

“Winter swans” and “Letters from Yorkshire” both focus on the natural disconnect and distance that prevail in a relationship and how it is possible to overcome in both. They use an overload of natural imagery to reflect how the relationship they have and the feelings they still have are natural weather their ones of misery or joy. Both Winter swans and Letters from Yorkshire present nature as a powerful force in a relationship. In Winter Swans it is the observation that the swans “mate for life” that brings the couple together. It is clear the swans actions have had a direct impact on the couple’s relationship as the narrator describes the swans as presenting “a show of tipping in unison.…

Matrimony, monogamy, and children either leads to happiness, hardship, or usually a combination of both. Sharon Olds’ touches these subjects in her poem “Station.” To fully understand the deeper meanings within the poem one must understand that Olds’ 35-year marriage was strained to the point of divorce, and that this poem records an event that occurs towards the beginning of this strain. She uses her husband’s description and their interaction as a canvas to paint her subject matter into physical form, combining the physical and emotional. Olds’ uses simile, metaphor, and apostrophe to describe her husband as a “lord,” and through these comparisons she shows admiration towards her husband (9).…

Daymond John says, “Started it with two other friends each putting in $400, which was pretty much all they had.” (47). You have an interesting theory, Joyce. It was hard for me to determine why most of these myths have the same message. Something that I have noticed from most of them is that their stories are somewhat similar, the creation myths mostly. At least, they all agree that the world was in darkness at the beginning and the sequence of events that happened as well. For most of these stories, the first thing that was created was the light (even in the Bible).…

This emphasizes that despite David’s best efforts to bring meaning to his life through work, David’s life is an empty one. Over the course of the film, Susan forces David away from this dull setting and drags him on an adventure into the countryside, into a forest and eventually lands him in jail. As David physically moves farther away from the museum and into these more diverse surroundings, it shows that his worldview is expanding and broadening into something more meaningful, dwarfing his original work-centric. His life is no longer confined to the spaces of his museum exhibit. He has grown, and his past life no longer means as much to him now that his worldview has expanded past the bland walls of the museum.…

Gianlorenzo Bernini’s David is a historical piece of marble art that shows great emotion and engages the viewers in action. Bernini’s David could possibly be mistaken as a major league pitcher throwing a 95 mile an hour fastball. He gathers all his strength for each one of his pitches and puts all his effort into it. But this specific life size piece of marble sculpture has a different meaning to it. Some may not know exactly, but the emotion in Davids face tells a whole different story.…

“Litany,” a short poem by Billy Collins, represents Collins’ view on traditional love poetry. By taking Jacques Crickillon’s poem “You are the bread and the knife,/ the crystal goblet and the wine,” and rewriting it with a commentary regarding how it would better suit his lover, Collins is criticizing the often arbitrary-seeming phrases and flowery prose of standard romantic poetry. However, its criticism does not take away its meaning. In fact, the language Collins chooses while adapting the poem, his specific changes to the poem’s metaphors, his clever comparisons between his lover and himself, and his final acceptance of his lover’s imperfections all, in the end, offer a more realistic and personal vision of romance to the poem’s subject…
