The album Time Out was recorded in 1959 by The Dave Brubeck Quartet. The quartet featured Dave Brubeck on piano, Paul Desmond on alto saxophone, Eugene Wright on bass, and Joe Morello on drums. Dave Brubeck was not known for his outstanding musicianship like that of Paul Desmond, Brubeck was well known as a composer and bandleader. Paul Desmond was the best musician in The Dave Brubeck Quartet and he brought his soft, melodic, and imaginative style to the band. Desmond was one of the best known west coast alto saxophonists of the time and his contributions can be vividly heard on the album Time Out. The album Time Out featured a total of seven songs that were named “Blue Rondo A La Turk”, “Strange Meadow Lark”, “Take Five”, “Three To Get Ready”, “Kathy’s Waltz”, “Everybody’s Jumpin’”, and “Pick Up …show more content…
The bassist and drummer keep the rhythm throughout the song while the pianist and alto saxophonist improvise smooth melodies. The next song on the album is “Take Five”, one of the most popular songs. “Take Five” has a slow tempo that is similar to “Blue Rondo A La Turk” and it has a rhythmic sound. Even though it has a slow tempo, it feels like it is upbeat and driving. The intro and exit features a melody by the alto saxophonist that is simple and catchy. Dave Brubeck maintains the same melody throughout the entire song and the bassist and drummer are featured as the soloists in the middle of the song. The bassist holds the beat along with Brubeck’s melody while the drummer is offered a two minute solo improvisation in the middle of the song. The song is structured in a 5/4 time signature which is original and unique to jazz music, but it makes it difficult for the listener to follow. The next song on the album is “Three To Get Ready”. This song has a similar tempo to “Take Five”, but it uses a different song structure. It features melodic

There’s something lucidly invigorating in the quick jazzy rhythms, the saxophones, and the way you hear a “WHOO” each time the bass drum drops in. While “Median” itself is nothing special, its presence within the album is important as a way to make the whole thing dynamic. Too often, dance albums fall into the monotony of four-on-the-floor cuts; here, on Time Wharp, Loggins keeps it concentrated by mixing things up.…

In his essay, Mike Rose uses a plethora of examples ranging from personal experiences, historical examples, and visual content to support his assertion. For my own virtual jazz band, I wanted to try and pick jazz musicians who could mend well with a dance or a swing band. Max Roach on drums, Charles Mingus on bass, Benny Goodman on clarinet, Lester Young on tenor sax, Cannonball Adderly on alto sax, Joe “Tricky Sam” Nanton on trombone, Dizzy Gillespie on trumpet, Ella Fitzgerald and Cab Calloway as singers, and Duke Ellington on piano and as the bandleader. The group would have the style of early 20th century dance bands and do a live performance in front of an audience, possibly with a dance floor. The style of the band, as a whole, would take after a lot of Duke Ellingtons’ early big bands.…

During the final week of classes at Truman, I had the pleasure of hearing the school’s jazz bands in concert. During the concert, the Jazz Lab band and the Jazz Ensemble, both directed by Tim AuBuchon, played several jazz standards and modern favorites. The Jazz Lab band started out the night with five big band pieces. The instrumentation of the Jazz Lab band was standard for a big band; it included about four of each horn (saxophone, trumpet, and trombone), an upright bass, a piano, and a drumset.…

Gone Home is a narrative exploration game by the company Fullbright that stars Kaitlin Greenbriar returning to her family home after being overseas. Gone Home is often questioned on the complexity of its game play, and is often thought to be more of an interactive story, however it does fulfill the requirements of a game and I will be discussing various game play mechanics in Gone Home such as the different objects and their attributes, rules for game play and the overall design that help to support the narrative, as well as how all of this is used to create an effective story and why this is the best medium for such a story. I will start by giving the briefest of summaries; the game opens with Kaitlin, who we control in a first person perspective, returning home to a locked house all set in the 90s Their is a note left…

The song is put together in a basic song form which is the Introduction, Verse 1, Chorus, Verse 2, Chorus, Bridge, Chorus, and the Outro (YOUNG AND BEAUTIFUL). This song has two versions: the Pop and DH Orchestral version but the orchestral version allows the song to appeal differently to the audience than the pop version. The variety of instruments consists of pianos, and light drumming to create a simple effect. Then, the synthesized orchestra of strings creates a beautiful, melodic sound and articulates the simple chord structure of the percussion to go along with Del Rey’s soft, sweet, and powerful voice. The rhythm of the song varies throughout.…
