The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), found that among students who dated, 21 percent of female students and 10 percent of male students experienced physical and/or sexual violence (Teen Dating Violence, 2017). According to their website, domesticshelters.org, 1.3 million women are victims of physical assault each year. The most common age for a female to experience intimate partner violence for the first time is between the ages of 18-24 (Domestic Abuse Topline Facts and Statistics, 2015).
In 2007, Texas Governor Rick Perry signed House Bill 121 into effect mandating all school districts adopt and implement a comprehensive dating violence program. Some of the requirements of this bill is to educate students, train teachers
