However, over time new crimes more severe than murder have come about that have ripped the moral fabric of an individual’s whole being. Date rape, a topic that has been widely discussed in America has been occurring more and more frequently. Many individuals know little others know infinite amounts on the topic, yet there are still many misconceptions about the topic. One in four women has become victims of rape in their lifetime. (Nutrabio) Unlike ordinary rape, date rape uses other elements to find a way to get what is desired. Drugs and other substances that perpetrators use to subdue their victims for personal game can cause heart-wrenching effects. Rohypnol, a drug that has become very common in most rape cases has been in use for many years. Introduced in Europe in 1972 and produced by Hoffman La Roche in Mexico, Rohypnol was used as a sedative to give to patients for long surgeries. (Parrot 4) With drugs such as Rohypnol, XTC, and Ketamine victims will not be able to see, taste, or smell the drug once placed in a drink. Many common date rape drugs are particularly small, colorless, and can be slipped into a glass or a cup without notice.
