Whether it was a long day at work or a regular weekend date night, watching a movie with a bowl of popcorn always seems to be a popular choice. Deciding to have a movie night is easy trying to decide which type of movie is the hard part. Movies are categorized by Genre’s a few being horror, thriller, and romance. Anytime I get a chance to sit down and watch a movie I typically choose horror. The Genre horror comes with plenty of sub categories for the viewer to have a better selection of what type of movie they want to watch. My top three favorite subcategories are slasher, mystery, and paranormal. Slasher films have been around for decades and are always a top choice, a great example of slasher style films is Halloween series. Mystery …show more content…
Romance movies aren’t just a good pick for date nights, valentines day, or anniversaries, but also just a girls night in or even a break-up. My favorite time to watch a romance movie is when the house is quiet and I can pop open a bottle of wine and relax. Just like horror an thriller, romance Genre’s have a ton of subcategories a few being: romantic comedy, romantic drama, and romantic thriller. All three subcategories are different but also similar because they all share a romantic plot. Romantic comedies are always my top choice when choosing a romance film for a girls night. A good example of a romantic comedy is Friends With Benefits. Romantic dramas usually have a plot around obstacles created between two to three characters involved in a messy situation. Romantic dramas can either have a good or bad ending, a good example is Romeo and Juliet. Romantic thrillers are usually very suspenseful, and keep the viewers on the edge of their seats wondering what is the next move of the main characters. A good example of a romantic thriller is Obsessed. I mentioned three of my favorite Genres and three of their subcategories but there is still a ton more Genre’s that a viewer could choose from. I hope that my choices and explanations of each make it easier for the next time a movie night is on the

During this stage the genre is unclear and less certain in its values. Genre conventions are also switched up to question popular belief. Essentially, filmmakers try to switch up the genre by adding elements of psychological thrillers or even making the supposed “good guy” an actual “bad guy” or just not as saint-like usual “good guys” are. A fantastic example of this is Mikael Håfström’s The Rite.…

One of modern society’s favourite pastimes is watching and comparing films. Films have the ability to make us laugh, cry, or even think while touching our hearts no matter what the genre is. Contemporary media genres have dramatically changed since classical literary times, which divided theatrical and literature into groups of drama and comedy, giving birth to genres. Films have become difficult to place into a specific genre, as “any theme may appear in any genre” (Chandler 1997, p. 1) resulting in genres blending continuously. For example, a Science Fiction (Sci-Fi) film is classified in that genre due to its situational context and fundamental plot, though, Sci-Fi films may also be categorised into genres such as horror (Aliens), comedy…
