Both of the Data Quality Model tool from American Health Information Management Association(AHIMA) and Canadian Institute of Health Information (CIHI) are developed to provide the secure and quality care service in their respective field. Each of them have developed their own characteristics of data quality to support the decision making application within the organization.

AHIMA information governance principles for a health care organization have developed eight characteristics. Accountability, transparency, integrity, protection, compliance, retention, disposition and availability. In comparison, Canadian quality of information guideline have just seven attribute of quality of information that includes relevance, accuracy, reliability, completeness, understandability, accessibility and timeliness. It looks like AHIMA is updating its characters in a timely manner, it was latest updated on 2015 and it has more domain and characteristics in a table format that made its user easy to analysis their requirement. CIHI is updated on 2016 but they are still using their 2003 policy of management of information that might be the reason their dimension of quality is limited. Similarly, AHIMA core model provide the parameter base on the compliance, policies, right decision and responsibilities depends upon the need of any organization which made this tool used in most the healthcare
