Data Mining and Nursing Discovery Data mining and knowledge discovery in databases (KDD) are methods used to extract meaningful information from large datasets. The health care industry increasingly employs these techniques in various aspects to improve the quality of patient care and performance of clinical systems. Data mining is one of the steps in the KDD process. Data mining and KDD offer many benefits in health care facilities as well as the nursing profession as learning tools. In particular, the approaches are essential in developing predictive models, researching, and establishing new policies and practices in health care (Madigan & Curet, 2006). Therefore, the adoption of data mining and KDD contributes significantly to nursing knowledge and education programs. However, data mining helps in establishing highly effective treatment techniques to resolve these problems. Moreover, health care facilities employ data mining in outcome measurement. For instance, it supports the formulation of a benchmarking approach to compare various clinics (Madigan & Curet, 2006). As a result, the health care providers develop evidence-based practices and policies that are part of nursing education
