Data from the Texas Teacher Effectiveness Project was used to explore the results from a process-product research and test the validity of successful teachers versus unsuccessful teachers using specific research with correlation to student improvements. Hardin states that process-product research has transitioned classroom management to a science through compositing reliable data (2012). There were 165 teachers of 2nd and 3rd-grade students chosen to participate based on their consistent increases in student performance evaluated over a consecutive 4-year timeframe, consisting of 5 subtests. In this case study, the use of low and high inference coding was implemented as opposed to previous studies where only low inference coding results were observed. The emphasis is that cooperative learning improves collaboration and builds positive relations with students. The study was qualitative and included 18 elementary school teachers in grades 2 to 6 from 7 schools, all from the same school district with the teachers being observed in multiple sessions. During the multiple sessions, multiple activities were observed and the findings were documented. Some of the lessons noted degrees of student’s engagement, cooperation, and student performance. The use of cooperative learning varied by the teacher and their years of experience. According to Hardin, Emmer noted that student engagement required focus and teachers lost instructional time when class lacked routine and procedures (2012). The study revealed that the student’s accountabilities as individuals and as part of their work teams seemed to correlate positive results.
