In this case study a principal wants to conduct research on increasing the number of computers inside the classroom and what impact this might have on student learning. First he needs lookup the cost of implementing this initiative using real world figures. Without having have knowledge of the overall cost he cannot make a properly informed decision. In addition, he needs to research for cost effectiveness of the products he may purchase. For example, should he buy a single desktop computer? How does this cost compare to the purchase of Multi-Link computers, which offer four independent screens to every computer tower? What additional cost could the purchase of computers cause the school to incur; will they need to purchase Microsoft Office, Auto CAD, Webcams, and will the network be able to support addition computers? The educational value needs to compare to the cost of purchasing these units. To do this the principal needs to interview 10 percent of the teachers to find out the educational value of addition computers. The qualitative data receive from this method will go a long way to aid decision making.
