The four primary components to natural selection are variation, inheritance, high rate of population growth and differential survival and reproduction. Variation in an organism includes body size, hair color, facial markings, voice properties or number of offspring’s. Inheritance is when traits are consistently passed on from parent to offspring’s. High rate population growth is where more offspring’s are being born each year than local resources. Last, differential survival and reproduction is when the individual offspring possessing traits that are well suited for the struggle for local resources will contribute to the next generation. These are Darwin’s four main primary components of natural selection.
