Darwin and Dinosaurs exhibit at MOSH Museum
The visit to MOSH on Saturday was my first time going to the museum. I was surprised by the size of the building and how many exhibits and artifacts they were able to show inside. The Darwin and Dinosaurs exhibit was really cool. It was neat to see and read about Darwin and other scientists of the time while being by displays of massive dinosaurs. I learned many new things about Darwin 's life and the evolution of organisms at the exhibit, and had a fun time going through the exhibit.
Darwin had two mentors that shaped he into the man he is remembered as. The first was Robert Edmond Grant. Mr. Grant mentored Darwin at Edinburgh University. I was delighted to read this since I spent a week in Edinburgh this summer and toured their art building. The second was John Stevens Henslow. Darwin and Henslow were very close when Darwin studied at Cambridge University. Darwin was dubbed, “the man who walks with Henslow” because the two were often seen walked around together. Henslow was offered the job of naturalist on the HMS Beagle but declined. He proceed to recommend Darwin for the job. It’s unbelievable that Darwin was recommended by a great friend and mentor for the voyage that changed his life.

The exhibit is definitely something that science students would enjoy. Non-science students may enjoy the exhibit as well, especially since some parts are hands on. There were several touch screens with displays of numerous articles and artworks. The interactive moth game was great for everyone too. The MOSH also has many other cool exhibits to see. One of the neat ones is the Florida Naturalist Center. It was many tanks with reptiles such as turtles, tortoises, and terrapins. There is also I touch tank with a red mangrove, sergeant majors, and sea urchins. I am very glad I participated in the recent trip to MOSH and will definitely recommend MOSH to

I think the coolest thing at the museum were the two displays they had one of which was a simulation of a cell and how small they were I’d say about 95% of the cell was the bed, the second thing they had was a display of an Andersonville prisoner trying to escape by digging a tunnel with a shiv. I really enjoyed the second display because it really showed the struggle of the prison and how prisoners would do anything to escape. Some of the cons of the museum were that it was almost all based on WWII POW camps there were maybe 6 plaques actually about Andersonville in the museum which I found to be slightly disappointing. Also, the museum could have been…

Visiting the PEM museum and discovering Gardner Pingree house and the Yin Yu Tang house, I learned many things throughout my whole experience. Going through two different houses and contrasting both of the houses seemed very easy because both of the house were from two different parts of the world. The Gardener's Pingree House was from U.S.A and the Yin Yu Tang House was from China. The Yin Yu Tang house was a Chinese house whose owner was a late dynasty merchant.…

In the introduction of “Charles Darwin and the Origin of Species,” author Michael Ruse discusses how Charles Darwin’s family came to have the wealth and social standings of the upper middle class of the time period. The relevance of the introduction is based on how Darwin could afford to be educated and how his social standing helped to support his farfetched theories of evolution during his lifetime. The introduction begins with Darwin’s full name, Charles Robert Darwin, which gives a visual image of what he might look like as well as identifying the main person that the biography is about. It goes on to give the date of his birth to start the setting. In the next sentence, Ruse links Darwin to Abraham Lincoln, another great innovator and…

On November 14, my husband and I drove out to Pawnee to visit the Pawnee Bill Ranch and Museum. This site is considered to be a significant site because it includes Pawnee Bill’s ranch, his house, the site of his Wild West shows, and a museum over his life and career. If I was an Oklahoma History teacher in secondary school I would use this site as a field trip while talking about Pawnee Bill and his career. It would also be a good site to use while covering ranches, and how they worked.…

My visit to the Nelson-Atkins museum was unlike any of my other visits to museums. First of all, I had a solid purpose for going and found myself paying much more attention to the intricacies of pieces I was viewing. Secondly, due to its sheer size, this museum had a wide variety of art from many different cultures and time periods, giving each hallway and room a different feel. Lastly, I felt much more educated about what I was viewing, when compared to previous experiences. I waited until the 8th of July to drive to Kansas City and thus had read most of content that would be covered over the semester.…

Thomas Huxley supported Darwin, but believed that it should be on an ethical basis, not “survival of the fittest” (Doc. 5). Given that he was a biologist and an avid popularizer of the sciences, it is not surprising that he would take this view. Herbert Spencer was a philosopher and sociologist, so it is not surprising that he would take the view of supporting Darwin. Spencer argued that while Darwin's theory was rough, it was very much real. He spoke of widows and orphans fighting for survival, (Doc 6).…
