Have you ever sat down at the dinner table, and stared at the plate of seafood in front of you, and wondered about overfishing? Have you stared at the pencil or paper that you use in class, and thought about deforestation? Have you ever wondered if you could be a part of the next extinction because of that seafood or pencil? One of Darrin Bell's many comic strips that address the causes of human actions on planet earth is titled the Sixth Great Extinction. Bell relies upon the elements of a caption, symbolism, and allusion to convey his concern of the treatment of earth in the comic, Sixth Great Extinction.

Once again in the cartoon, there is an asteroid crashing into the ocean. If the asteroid lands into the ocean it may kill a significant amount of living organism. Moreover, earth’s oceans make up more than seventy percent of the earth's surface. It is understood that the living organisms which live in the oceans are important. Overfishing at the top of the food chain within the sea life could cause an unbalanced scale within the ocean. Combined that with marine pollution which depletes oxygen for marine creatures, it can make survival difficult for sea life. Hazards within the oceans aren’t the only concern that worries the artist. With much of all land creatures as well as plants living in forests, deforestation can destroy the land creatures and plants home. Moreover, deforestation affects land creatures and plants survival as a result. We can see how deforestation, pollution, and overfishing are endangering both, sea life as well as organisms that live on

The way we neglect our ocean with heavy amounts of pollution can potentially affect our lives in a negative manner. Driving cars and the use of plastic is essential to our daily lives, but we use them without the concern for how they are affecting the habitats on Earth. Some people think that the chance that they are doing harm to the ocean is less important to them than cost or inconvenience of fixing a pollution problem. Through sources from researchers and scientists, they have found evidence of pollution caused by the two essential commodities in our lives, plastic and burning fossil fuels. Environmentalists have found solutions to reduce the plastic waste in our ocean as well as attempting to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the atmosphere…

With the developing technologies and industries, humans now possess the ability to impact the Earth immensely. In the articles, “Numerous Signs Point to Parasite Mass Extinctions” by Tracy V. Wilson and “Mass Extinction and Biodiversity Loss” by David Hosansky, are concerned on this topic and explain how the Earth is on the brink of a sixth mass extinction. Both articles give explanations on ways extinctions are happening all around us and the main culprit isn’t a massive asteroid or volcanic explosions, it’s us. Many species in the world are endangered and eventually becoming extinct. The main problem that generates extinction is human activity; people cause extinction every day and unknowingly to them, it is killing innocent animals. Due to pollution, natural forces, human interaction, and loss of habitats, animal extinction is a major crisis in the world; people are the only ones that can save the animal population before it is too late. Pollution is among the most insidious threats to animal extinction. It can be as obvious as sewage and oil spills in water or as invisible as chemicals used every day.…
