The once so pleasant sunset was now gone and complete black. The only light visible was the little, shiny stars glistening in the dim sky which made everything brighten up. You will eventually face the dark nights in your life that may lead you to question your life but you

There could be more than one definition of a beautiful place; they all differ from each other. For example, the sight and sound of ocean waves colliding with each other as they ooze onto the shore of the beach could be a definition of a beautiful place; however, the sight of gleaming city lights with the glowing silver shine of the moon resting in the sky could also be a definition of a beautiful place. Hume Lake Christian Camp is my definition of a beautiful place. It is located in the Sequoia National Forest in Hume, Fresno County, California.…

In Paul Bogards essay, "Let there Be Dark", he offers a very clear stance on why natural darkness should be preserved. He does this by retelling a personal incident, relating to a piece of art, and providing detrimental facts. First of all, he provides a personal anecdote during a time where he was in Minnesota. It is dark. It always is. My mind, like the hell-lit cave, is ignorant to life outside of darkness. I see mere shapes and speak but madness; the language I had once known as meaningless as a singular grain of sand on a sprawling shore. Life is but a farce, a fable constructed by the imagination of others.…

What I believed to be the cold dead hands of the grim reaper plucked me off the ground and dragged me up the hill. A light much brighter than a million suns filled my eyes, and I heard someone with a formal voice call my name. To keep the light out of my eyes I kept them close passing back out and waking up when the carriage I was in ran over a rock in the middle of the dirt road. Samuel and Julia were siting across from me or at least I thought I saw them until Julia blew a cloud of green specks that sparkled like stairs into my face. The specks traveled up my nose and down my throat causing me to fall back to sleep.…

We arrived in the middle of the night, almost in secret. When we were a couple miles away, we could see dimmed lights up ahead. The closer we got, the brighter they shined our way. The chilly night air rushes around, a gentle reminder that it is midnight and the world is sleeping. Looking up, all I see is the vast expanse of night sky. The sky always seems to be hovering above earth, just out of reach, no matter how high humans try to venture. Instead of the black ominously swallowing up the world, it seems to sit contently above. The starlight cuts through the dark, creating an allusion of nearness because of the stars’ unmistakable glow.…
