When I finally waded through what felt like an ocean and reached the brilliant shelter, I admired the glorious sunbeam shining through the door and lumbered inside. I was glad there was finally shelter from the monsoon of rain outside but sad it was a school classroom. I could hear the pounding storm-spawn trying to get inside the classroom to ruin everything warm and good. I went to my desk and hauled out the supplies necessary, gawking at all the beakers and other materials that made the classroom look like a mad science lab. Then, the ear-murdering bell rang to announce the start of class. “Today we will be learning about atoms, molecules, and chemical reactions,” Mr. Bodily explained. Some of the students grumbled about how boring this was going to be. I was just waiting for lunch in 4 hours, but I was slightly intrigued. I still would rather be anywhere else, of course, but I was interested in what he had to say. “Now, when atoms attach themselves to the same kind of atom it is called an element.” He stated. I could hear other students whispering and making jokes about …show more content…
The students audibly expressed their joy, because everyone loved watching videos, but I was still bored to death. “When atoms attach to each other they form molecules,” the robotic computer-lady stated plainly and emotionlessly. “There are many different kinds of combinations to form molecules, and each different combination forms a different molecule,” the student sitting next to me was almost asleep already, just from that statement. “Glucose is composed of 24 atoms,” her voice as monotonous as the thumping of the rain outside. There were a few yawns, one of which was forced for attention. “There are 6 carbon atoms, twelve hydrogen atoms, and 6 oxygen atoms. It looks like this: C6H12O6,” it showed on screen with that voice that was starting to get on my nerves, but I was starting to become really interested in that subject. “Ok, that’s enough of that video, I really hate that voice,” Mr. Bodily declared, “but you get the point.” “When certain molecules combine, they can cause chemical reactions.” he informed us.
“At your desks, you each have jars of molecules that will cause a chemical reaction when mixed together with water. Go ahead and mix them and see what happens,” he
