The scene opens with Matt leaving the police station after he was told the news. You begin to hear an ominous sound and the choir singing “Silent Night” throughout the scene, foreshadowing the dark nature of the situation. As he leaves, he enters a dark tunnel. The darkness could symbolize Matt’s situation, that he is alone. Matt is in a black attire, as the color black usual represents fear or the unknown. This is the first time we see Matt from another person’s point of view. Red is known to be color of “danger”, in this society it indicates that he is an outcast or felon. This changes the state of the situation because now she sees Matt as something dangerous. Now that we know that everyone sees Matt as this blurred red figure, this will make it harder for Matt to even interact with anyone. As the woman quickly walks past Matt, the expression on her face shows that she is worried because Matt is some kind of felon. She is being cautious around Matt, as she walks by. She represents everyone, as anyone else would show the same kind of caution towards Matt. After the woman walks away, a close-up of Matt’s face shows that the woman affected him. He is hurt by the fact that he couldn’t even speak to her. In this moment, Matt realizes that he couldn’t interact with another human being
