Daria Coleman Heroin Addiction

Samantha Cole from Chautauqua, New York was a drug addict that was addicted to heroin, not only that but most importantly is a mother of two daughters. Coleman had been struggling with addiction for years. Specially coming from a family that all she ever saw while growing up was domestic violence and the high dependency of drugs. She suffered an accident where she was rigorously burned. While recovering from the accident the doctors prescribed her opiates in which promptly led her to become addicted to them. With that not being enough Coleman was involved in an abusive relationship. In the court they presented evidence showing Vincent the father had been sober and that was taking Orlaam for his heroin addiction, was randomly tested, had a sponsor and was attending his NA meetings. On the other hand, the mother Daria had several relapses and later started Orlaam treatment for her heroin addiction, there was significant change that was noticeable in Daria’s behavior. Just like Vincent Daria began to go to her meetings. But Daria was in need to take anger management classes that she wasn’t able to because of the cost. Daria’s counselor’s options were that Casey could be immediately returned to the parent’s custody but the social worker disagreed. The social worker looked at how the parents had a constant cycle of drug abuse and how it wouldn’t be beneficial that the child be returned to their custody. The social worker went about expressing on how Casey showed no preference on her parents but instead saw them as part-time caregivers. She also noticed that Casey began to call her foster mom “ma-ma.” The social worker testified that it would be to Casey’s best interest to stay where she was at because they were able to offer her medical, emotional support, encouragement, love but Casey had great foster parents. The court denied both petitions stating that the parents had a very extensive drug history. So in Daria’s case they didn’t find change circumstances and in Vincent’s case they found that he did established change circumstances. Unfortunately, it wouldn’t be in Casey’s best interest do to the lack of relationship or communication between Vincent and Casey.
