Darfur Civil War

Disputes between religions have been an issue since civilization created the religious mindset. However, in Sudan, conflicts have risen between people of the same religion. For instance, the Darfur genocide was a tremendous altercation between Muslim Arab Sudanese and Muslim black Sudanese. According to the Human Rights Council, “the genocide in Darfur has claimed 400,000 lives and displaced over 2,500,000 people.” This racial inequity has been present since 1955, erupting violence throughout Sudan and causing countless complications between the two ethnicities, however it became most eminent in 1990. These same complications were triggers of a major civil war, especially those that concern the discovery of oil as well as the government.
In further detail, the civil war started with the hardships of the Western Sudanese people. Faced with famine, farmers were forced to hoard the land in order to be able to provide sufficient resources for themselves and their families. Inevitably, this sparked copious amounts of dissatisfaction between civilians. Conditions worsened and vexations intensified until people began to rebel and revolt against the government, blaming them for neglecting Western Sudanese people.
