2. The woman lying on the tracks was shot in the knee, while escaping the train that led her to the extermination camp. She was considered to be one who “dared” because she knew the chances of making it safely to freedom by exiting through the floor boards but yet she still tried.

The young man was just a good Samaritan that offered to help the woman. Due to the fact the man bought her vodka and cigarettes, I would say that he wanted to make her comfortable since he knew that she was most likely going to die. He probably felt sorry and hopeless for the woman because he probably knew that there was nothing that he could do to save her.
6. The old woman gasping for breath helping is significant because it symbolizes how the older generation does not see the Jews the same way as the then current generation. Even though the old woman did not stay due to the fear of being caught and sentenced to death she still symbolized those who are not against the Jews but were too afraid to rebel.
7. The women begin to be shot by the police man shows her loss of hope, and the fact that she would rather die free than be taken to the concentration/extermination camp and die there. The woman wants to die while she is still a human being and not just another number at the camp.
