Science Fair Paper
Daphnia Magna are small water fleas that are native to Minnesota. They are an indicator of good water quality ( Science buddies,2010 ). Daphnia Magna are small enough to be eaten by dragonflies, and are food for many small to medium sized fish. The reason that we should be paying attention to Daphnia Magna is because of pollution in our lakes. This pollution can affect a lot of actions that we do in our daily lives. Pollution can lead to mutations in fish, frogs and other animals that live in water. This can affect our food supply as well as the quality of the food we eat. Another reason recognizing pollution in lakes is a good idea is that it is the first step in reducing pollution in lakes.
In the beginning of this project I was looking for a way to measure water quality with …show more content…
This graph represents the amount of Daphnia Magna in the Diamond lake water sample.
The amount of Daphnia Magna started at 10 in the water sample. Then after 27 days there were 31 Daphnia Magna in the water sample. That was an increase of 21 Daphnia Magna.
Figure 3. This graph represents the amount of Daphnia Magna in the Lake Hiawatha water sample.
The amount of Daphnia Magna started at 10 in the water sample. Then after 27 days there were 17 Daphnia Magna in the water sample. That was an increase of 7 Daphnia Magna.
Figure 4. This graph represents the amount of Daphnia Magna in the Powderhorn Lake water sample.
The amount of Daphnia Magna started at 10 in the water sample. Then after 27 days there were 5 Daphnia Magna in the water. That was a decrease of 5 Daphnia Magna.
Figure 5. This graph represents the amount of Daphnia Magna in the Lake Nokomis water sample.
The amount of Daphnia Magna started at 10 in the water sample. Then after 27 days there were 4 Daphnia Magna in the water sample. That was a Decrease of 6 Daphnia Magna.
