Striving to Be the Coffee Bean
If you’ve survived your terrible twos and have made it past the tormented years of middle school, then you’ve at least been faced with some adversity. The story of the carrot, egg, and coffee bean is the simple question of how do you personally face adversity. I have been a carrot, an egg, and a coffee bean several times. Sometimes I am an egg, other times I’m a carrot, however, I always strive to be the coffee bean in which I change with the situation and mold myself into a better person in order to fight my battles.
Whether they’re scrambled, over-easy, or hard boiled, eggs always seem to be a crowd pleaser, but in the terms of facing adversity they are the opposite of what I’m looking for. A little over a year ago my family was faced with the death of my …show more content…
The creator of night owls, early birds, and very happy college students. However, caffeine isn’t only the drink of choice but also what I strive to be when faced with a troubling situation. This past summer I attended Virginia Girls’ State where we not only drank a lot of coffee but where I was also more like a bean than ever before. Girls’ State is held once a year during the summer and only rising seniors in high school attend. It is a week where 600 girls run Virginia with a mock government. Throughout the week girls have the opportunity to run for various city and state offices including town council, mayor, and governor. I took on the daring task of running of governor and came in second. Even though I lost I don’t regret running at all. It was the most eye opening and incredible experience I have ever had the honor of participating in. Losing was hard but it’s how I reacted after losing that defined this moment as a coffee bean moment. Instead of feeling sorry for myself I put it aside and truly enjoyed the rest of the week. I realized I had the choice of letting it ruin my time at Girls’ State or turning it into a positive
