In the news article by Fox News and other popular news sites is about an Ohio man that had a long criminal record that was accused of shooting and killing a cop. Officer Thomas Cottrell of Danville, Ohio was shot down shortly before midnight behind the Danville Municipal Building on January 17th, 2016. Danville is a town of about 1000 people, Knox County Sheriff David Shaffer said. His weapon for service and his service vehicle both were missing. Cottrell's cruiser was later found about a half a mile from his body. Danville is a town similar to Fayette, Iowa where they only have about one officer on duty at a time, but have six paid officers on the department. When they received the call they instantly tried to reach out to Officer Cottrell as he was the only one on duty at the time to warn him about the women’s phone call about her ex-boyfriend and what he was out to do.
The suspected gunman, Herschel Ray Jones III, was taken into custody around 1:30 a.m. on January 18th after he tried to run from the officers after the shooting. The Knox County Prosecutor Chip McConville says he expects Jones to face a murder charge, but it is not clear how soon it would be filed. Shaffer said

First off being that a cop was killed after trying to keep the small town of Danville safe. Second, which the gunman then stole the officer’s gun and the cop car after shooting the officer. One thing that was ethically right based off of our class so far is that the women called and notified that her ex-boyfriend was out to kill a police officer allowing them time to act upon it and prevent it, unfortunately it was not done fast enough. I feel like in today’s society most people would not even had done that. Overall this is ethically wrong because he went and killed the officer for no reason at all. This officer was out to protect the city and keep everyone safe and his life should not have been taken like that in any
