Analysis Of Cento Vergilianus De Laudibus Christi

Improved Essays
Cento Vergilianus de laudibus Christi is a fourth-century Latin poem arranged by Faltonia Betitia Proba after her conversion to Christianity. A cento rearranges verses written by other poets; this one repurposes Virgil to tell stories from the Old and New Testament of the Christian Bible. Much of the work focuses on the story of Jesus Christ. The poem was widely circulated, eventually being used in schools to teach the tenets of Christianity, often alongside Augustine of Hippo's De Doctrina Christiana. Although the poem was popular, critical reception was mixed. A pseudonymous work purportedly by Pope Gelasius I disparaged the poem, deeming it apocryphal, and St. Jerome may have written disapprovingly of it, and of Proba. Relevance and attention work hand-in-hand, but they work differently from person to person. The one-size-fits-all model of standards calls for a student who is expected to learn only in the way that he has been taught and only what he has been taught; however the one-size-fits-all model does not represent every single student. It fails to recognize the different types of students⏤some who may have learning disabilities or who may just not be genetically constructed to attain lessons in the traditional way that has been used over the centuries⏤and instead catalogues each and every one into a single category when it comes to education. Cathy Davidson, in her article “Project Classroom Makeover,” cries out for a change in the educational system…

However, even in its early age, the Internet displayed curious properties, as popular tech-cartoonist Scott Adams states,” In 1993, there were only a handful of Web sites you could access, such as the Smithsonian’s exhibit of gems. These pages were slow to load and crashed…

The reality of the situation is yes, technology is very beneficial to the learning process because it gives us a source of instant information, removes the traditional designations of status or authority, and develops mental dexterity. Before the internet existed, people and students alike spent several hours or even days searching through libraries in order to find information on what they wanted to know (Carr).…

A Stand Against Wikipedia by Scott Jaschik draw attention on how students should not use Wikipedia as a resources due to its inaccuracy details and lack completeness entries. In his article he emphasize, “ As Wikipedia has become more and more popular with students, some professors have become increasingly concerned about the online, reader- produced encyclopedia.” Scott have a point where there is plenty of inaccuracy details, but that’s not accurate at all. If the person gathered enough sources that seemingly relates one to the other, then there the sources surely is accurate. Basically, don’t rely on one resources, the researchers needs plenty of resources in order for him or her to make a case or support his or her idea.…
