The first important event in the friendship of Danny and Reuven is when the baseball game where Danny and Reuven first meet. Reuven talks to Danny and says “I told my team we’re going to kill you apikorsim this afternoon” (The Chosen, p. 18). Reuven gets mad because Danny calls him an “apikorsim”. The baseball game between Danny and Reuven does not go well because Danny hits Reuven’s eye. Danny tries to apologize to Reuven for hitting Reuven’s eye, but Reuven is vehemently mad at Danny to forgive him. Reuven tells his father about Danny’s visits and David remind him about what the Talmud says. Danny visits Reuven for the second time to apologize.
