Personal Narrative: Italian Food

I for one am a fan of trying different kinds of food. But having the option of different food from around the world is something that I admire when I walk into a restaurant.

However all of that changed when I walked in the front door, as soon as I opened the door I was overwhelmed by the smell of Lasagna, Sausages, tomato sauce, Meatballs, and so much more.
Even though Danielle's deli is an Italian deli I thought that it would just have Italian meats and cheeses. But I was wrong there is so much more than Meat and cheese and there is so much more than just Italian food. I imagined cases full of Italian meat, Italian sausage, and Italian cheese.

The meat sauce was a little more difficult to make since I had to make it from scratch. Typically, when I make spaghetti and meat sauce, I purchase Ragu’s Garden Combination sauce. I found a really good recipe for meat sauce from scratch. I purchased all of my ingredients from Kroger as well. The recipe called for ground beef, 1 chopped onion, 4 cloves of garlic, 1 small green bell pepper diced, diced tomatoes (they said to use a can, I used fresh tomatoes and diced them myself), oregano, basil salt and pepper.…

Their salads have fresh tomatoes and don't just include the usual iceberg lettuce, but hearty leafy greens. They also give you a basket of Italian bread fresh out of the oven with something I haven't seen anywhere else--an olive oil plate with marinara sauce placed right in the middle. While I have had a few of their entrees--burgers, pizza (which is excellent), and my personal favorite, chicken parmesan--today I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs. When I got my order, while the meal was good, I didn't think the meatballs were anything special. They almost seemed a bit bland to me.…

I tried three different kinds of pizza - the cheese, pepperoni, and finally the meat lovers. Though all the deep dish pies were tremendous with their glazed brown crust and sauce smoothly layered on top, the meat lovers pizza was my favorite. The meats are either marinated, come with sauce, or just straight as it is, with dipping oils and sauce that you can mix along with it. With that being said, the food is just delicious! Meat quality is pretty good for a place that isn’t fine dining, and anyone that loves meat is surely to find something they like on the menu. Being that I’m still in college without a job, I usually elect to go for the cheapest package, the Nevada package, and yet, I’m still able to eat really delicious food to my heart’s content. Something that some restaurants suffer from is food portions.…

A food routine analysis of my family would be a food routine based on not only Midwestern routine, but also the routine in Northern Minnesota of an immigrant family from Italy. My mother was born in, and spent most of her life in the Midwest, and my father was born in Northern Minnesota to a traditional Italian family that had immigrated to the United States only a generation prior. My Great Grandmothers on my mother’s side were Cajun and Irish, so I ate gumbo and corned beef and cabbage.…
