Daniel Arsham's Hidden Figure

Decent Essays
The art piece that I choose to do my critical intervention was on Daniel Arsham piece called “Hidden Figure”. I choose “Hidden Figure” (Arsham) because I loved the simplicity of the piece but as well of the strength that the piece holds. The reason on why I thought this art piece was simple was because the art piece its self was just a human body figure hidden behind a white cloth and the only thing visible was the boots the figure was wearing and the shape of the human figure. . As well as being simple, “Hidden Figure” (Arsham) also was obvious. The reason why I thought that “Hidden Figure” (Arsham) was obvious is because you can clearly see that there was something hidden behind the white cloth. Although the “Hidden Figure” (Arsham) was

I chose to analyze “A Subtlety”. “ A Subtlety” is a striking huge sculpture. It uses all organic shapes to make the body. Although the sculpture is all white I believe it is because of the light or lack thereof in the sugar factory. This brings a strong contrast from the dark surroundings in the factory so that the sculpture will be the main focus.…

In “Empire of Illusion” by Chris Hedges, Hedges states that “the most essential skill...is artifice.” The dictionary definition of artifice can be paraphrased as using tricks to deceive others, someone who is clever or cunning; though I wouldn’t use clever as a description of someone who is artifice. From personal experience, being artifice is not something that can help you, matter of a fact, it can kill. Many use artifice to use others to their own benefits, even if it means turning an entire population against another.…

Within the world of contemporary art, an issue that often presents itself is the issue of context. In many cases such as the one I will present in this essay, the idea of understanding and appreciating a piece of work is often quite difficult without the back-story. Not only does context place the work in time, but also allows us as viewers to further relate our own experiences to what the artist is trying to say. This process of obtaining context through research therefore allows for a deeper appreciation of the given work despite our initial assumptions and bias.…
