Do people actually know the true dangers of smoking? Smoking seems to be a trend among today’s people, but the fact is that smoking isn’t a new thing. Smoking has been around since the 1500’s, possibly even earlier. Smoking can lead to various health problems, including lung cancer, throat cancer and heart disease. Statistics show that in the US, an estimated 480,000 people die from smoking. The ad itself is really a depiction of what smoking really does to you. Many people may think smoking is trendy, but the reality is that smoking cigarettes is actually killing you. Not only is it a part of American culture, but it is a part of various cultures. In America, if you go outside and walk down the street it’s almost guaranteed that you will see someone outside smoking. You may not even have to go that far, you may only have to look inside your house and see someone with cigarettes. But cigarettes have not been advertised by the media as much as it used to. If you go back about 50 years or so, you will see that cigarettes were often advertised in newspapers and on TV. But now, there are rarely any commercials promoting cigarettes on TV. A reason for this, is that the health risks of cigarettes are more known and people are more cautious about them. Now you see more advertisements about the risks of cigarettes. These advertisements show people who were long time smokers and the effects of cigarettes on their body. These people were in hospitals attached to multiple breathing apparatuses or had pieces of their necks missing talking through a metal piece that makes their voice sound distorted. The advertisements showed that cigarettes may seem cool, but it also shows that they are addictive and dangerous to the body. Many people think that since they are young that cigarettes won’t affect them, but the fact is that it may not affect you now but it will later on. There are other factors that may contribute but those are the main ones. I wonder do people take into consideration the health risks associated with this habit. Some people know the risks but ignore them just so they can fit in with their friends and don’t feel left out. This is a problem with our people, we are so concerned about fitting in that we don’t think about the repercussions of our actions. Society has blinded us so that we sort of ignore the risks of cigarettes. This ad delivers a strong and necessary message that says we as people may see a cigarette as just a cigarette, but inside the cigarette is a weapon that can lead to serious health problems or even death. So the next time you decide to smoke a cigarette, just think about the effects it’s going to have on your body and is it worth
