The dangers of marijuana have become a controversial topic through Canada. One of the main issues concerning marijuana are whether or not it benefits our Canadian citizens. On one hand, people who support the consuming of marijuana, hold that it will benefit our nation by keeping it healthy. Those opposed to it argue that it does not benefit the country since it reaches younger children and it provokes health issue within consumers. Millhorn, Monaghan, Montero, Reyes, Roman, Tollasken and Walls (2009) assert how our citizens openly opine with a positive attitude towards consumption of marijuana. In Canada, marijuana poses significant risks to health public when it comes citizens who consume it. Especially for those affected in their first intent. Crepault (2014) mention marijuana can be extremely dangerous for adolescents and people with mental illness. This research mentions how these consumers harm themselves. On the other side, to solve this major problem, marijuana’s legalization is one of the first steps towards reducing marijuana-related harm, and health-focused that individuals must follow (p.40). This type of problems worry the community but still encourage these individuals to realize the danger from marijuana. Several programs have been open for individuals from the community to seek help before it’s too late. This programs also offer opportunities such as reduce health risks, reduce self-harm, boost self-esteem and rehabilitation. Koenig, Erickson, Riley, Cheung, and O’Hare (2000) informs that decriminalization or legislation become a part of harm reduction and this programs also offer through the community. The goal becomes the reduction or minimization of drugs instead of becoming an addict and depend on them (p.109).
