Freedom and privacy are two issues that many believe will be the first to be compromised when AVs are introduced on a wide scale. Legislators and manufactures should work together to determine if the vehicles will be discretionary or non-discretionary. A discretionary AV grants a user the most autonomy and freedom of any type of AV, enabling the user to operate a self-driving function as they please and do such things as override a choice of route, or change the aggression of the vehicle (eco, normal, sport). A discretionary vehicle would take the form of a sophisticated driving assisted program by removing some of the dangers of driving, but would cede autonomy upon driver discretion.
