As I got older I became more afraid of clowns. My sister asks, "what wrong with clowns?" I wanted to tell her what happened, but she is too young to understand. So, I told her, "they are just scary." I've always been afraid of clowns, just never told the whole story. Even though she won't understand, I tell her the story anyway.

The gigantic circus tent, menacing and amazing, brought joy to all those who entered. The circus went on like a normal one should. The loud music, all the lights, and the acrobats are dazzling and amazing. Mesmerized by everything going on, dad chimed in and asked, "Isn't this amazing boys?" To which I replied, "yes this is awesome!" Finally, the part I've been waiting for, the clowns. Dancing and jumping around making everyone laugh. "ALRIGHT LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, ARE YOU READY TO SEE SOMETHING AMAZING?!" The announcer yells into the mic. Everyone in the crowd responses with, "YES." The clowns and a few helping hands bring out this gigantic canon. They also set up the biggest net I had ever seen, hoisted up 25 feet in the air. One by one they shot the circus clowns out of the cannon and into the net. After around 2 hours of sitting, standing and cheering, it was the end of the show. Everyone got up and started to leave, but not us, dad took us down to the edge of the ring and asked if we wanted to meet a few of his friends that worked there. So we did and we talked about random things, about how school was and if we liked

In the movie Rize, an escalation of positive impact to a battle of two distinct styles of dancing, takes over the inner city of Los Angeles known as Watts. “Tommy the Clown” implements a company, and later a style known as “clowning.” that is taken up by adults and children of all ages, backgrounds, and physical statuses within the community. Based on an analysis of such a plot, the title “Rize” could be inferred to rhetorically describe the movement that this ‘clown’ began, “rising” from a solo act at children’s birthday parties, to the most influential person within the city.…

I’m expected to roll my neck and receive no respect because I’m expected to have tons of sass but hardly any class and my naturally curly kinky hair is something that I shouldn’t share with the world. Also, just because I’m black doesn’t mean I’m ignorant and unwilling to unpack controversial issues that affect everyone and not only my fellow blacks.
