Dangers of cell-phone use while driving are exhibited in this article. Furthermore, participants completed three driving conditions; driving while conversing, driving while talking on a hands-free device, and driving while the other partner could see a video of both the road and the drivers face. Testing was also done to see if visual information increased awareness and reduced the negative effects accompanied by cell-phone distraction. The authors sufficiently review other research based on this topic. They used a study by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety to find that when North Carolina completely banned cell-phone use, teens’ use of cellphone did not decrease. The Institute believed that drivers underestimated the degree of which cell-phone use will affect their driving. All of the previous research done was closely related to the design of this study. The researches of this study hypothesize that enhancing the conversation with a remote partner to stimulate conversation with a passenger would increase the partner’s awareness and therefore reduce distraction. Driving is the independent variable measured and awareness is the independent variable examined in the study. The independent variable, driving, is further broken down into three conditions: driving while conversing, driving while talking on a hands-free device, and driving while the other partner can see both the road and the driver.
