Fridays you’ll see the town decorated in colors of the team. You’ll see your mascot posted in every store window with streamers and ribbons. People who have written on their car windows with the team slogan. The cheerleaders are at the primary schools passing out spirit ribbons and pom poms. The football players walk in the school with their jerseys on overly hyped for it to only be 8 o’clock in the morning. Then you would know as the local news station would call it its football Friday nights Everybody is talking about the game and what they’re going to wear. Taking bets on who’s going to win, and you have those that are comparing stats between players. The teachers seem more laid back and at ease. School flashes by in a blur due to everybody

I would say this is most definitely true. Almond goes on to say “the driving ambition is not education but entertainment” Most students will put more time and effort into winning a game then they would in making an A. They’ll exercise to strengthen their muscles but would forget about the most important one the brain. Most parents don’t concern their selves to motivate them to work hard in schools or do a little extra studying cause it all leads to one goal for them maybe a scholarship but overall the NFL. Football has become a cultural obsession in America and the south and has become very detrimental. Where parents, coaches, and even them players themselves will risk injury and a proper education for glory. Football is a very big thing especially in my town. Pre work out season starts maybe two months before actual season. In the gym on weights that morning come back and hit the field that evening Two- a-days is what they call them. Where an athlete will do two practices a day once in the morning then again that evening. Conditioning and training for the season getting them at their top performing peak. They disagree with my agreement with him that there are dangers in football rather physical or educational. They may say as the old people back home would say “you making a mountain out of a mole hill”. That they are boys they’re supposed to be rough and tough. The old time let boys be boys will come into play. It builds character, a sense of family. Teaches brotherhood like the classic Remember the titans taught us like being from different walks of life and race and coming together on the field and becoming one, one unit, one family, and one team. It will discipline them so they can become responsible and better men teach them hard work and keep them on the straight and narrow. They would say there are rules and procedures that the coaches know that will insure their safety> Some guys aren’t meant for school; school isn’t for everybody this is their only way out their only ticket to success. The community bonds over the game give them a sense of pride or honor to be the town with the championship team.
