The Pearl The story The Pearl, many dangerous journeys are made and great things are found that it makes good angels turn to bad demons. John Steinbeck, a famous american author, wrote the novella The Pearl. In the novella, there is an indian man who finds “the pearl of the world” only to see that it brings many challenges. He must sell the pearl to make sure his family lives a long life, but must pass through all the dangers to make his dreams come true. Throughout the novel, what Kino views of important in life changes as he learns to cope with his inner demons.
At the beginning of the story, Kino values his family and his boat. Kino values his family because in the book it says, “sometimes it rose to an aching chord that caught the throat, saying this is safety, this is the Whole,” this was his family. …show more content…
The first intolerance conflict he wanted to resolve was killing the men because in the story it says, “And in the surface of the pearl he saw the frantic eyes of the man in the pool.”(Steinbeck, 89) Since Kino killed men he felt bad for his intolerance move, and this proves he is sad and wants to resolve it because he saw that and more bad things in the pearl after his actions. This also shows why he wants to resolve his intolerance move because before he did all those bad things he saw what he wanted, but afterwards he saw what bad things he did in the pearl. The second intolerance conflict he wanted to resolve was for putting harm 's way to Coyotito because in the story it says, “the side of the stone mountain, the cry of death.” (Steinbeck, 87) Kino knowing this had showed that his intolerance move led to Coyotito’s death and became one of the resolves he wanted to do. Throwing the pearl back to the sea proves he wanted to resolve Coyotito’s death in the end. His resolves were due to his action of keeping the pearl and made other events happen
