“The greatest danger to American freedom is a government that ignores the Constitution.” That quote is from Thomas Jefferson. It is that quote on which this paper is based. Our government today is very quickly forgetting the Constitution is what this country is built upon. What with violation of privacy “dealing” with terrorism, banning firearms becoming an actual ideal, and censoring things deemed inappropriate such as violent video games or making media withhold information.

A large portion believes that firearms should be banned, completely disregarding our 2nd amendment. Guns are used a lot for self defense. That means that if a criminal was casing a house and saw the owner had firearms, they would likely think twice about going in. This means that gun ownership is more likely to stop crimes rather than controlling it. Think about it. If guns were outlawed, only outlaws would have guns. The logic of banning guns means that we should also ban automobiles because they cause more deaths than guns. It means we should ban the sun because it can cause cancer and kill people. Let’s go ahead and ban junk food because it can lead to heart disease and kill people. On the other hand, some say that the amendment means the military has the guns, not the people. This means no easy means of self defense. As I was saying earlier, this would allow all the criminals to have all the guns. Finally, this amendment essentially allows us to overthrow the government and have another revolution. If firearms are handed to the government, we are at their will. They will become tyrannical and we will have no means of fighting back. The fact that people want to submit to a government that is well on it’s way to becoming tyrannical makes me worried for not only my future but the futures of my entire
