Perception Essay Throughout time media has shaped reality and change the perspectives of many people. Most of the time media can be falsely portrayed, and so can’t be reliable in most cases. This may cause stereotypes and would cause anarchy because of the misleading information.
The video a ”Danger of a Single Story” by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, discusses the major impacts in a single story and what could be the outcomes of a single story. The short story “ Cell One” discusses how a boy goes into trouble and goes to a jail for doing nothing. The misleading stereotypes created by what he was doing at the time and where he was, made everyone think that he was part of a cult and was unfairly in prison. In the short story “Cell one” the speaker aforementioned “The only time I asked him if he was in a cult, he looked at me with surprise, as if I should have known better than to ask, before replying ,”Of course not” I believed him.” (Adichie) This example helps the reader understand more of the story line and what the sister (speaker) thinks of Namibia early in the story. In demonstrating this the reader can have an idea of the type of community they are living in since it does not seem to be the most reliable or safe area to be in. Through the evidence the reader can understand the fact that their is cults or gangs in their community that it is not uncommon to make inferences or to ask if people are in a cult and or gangs.
