John Dunbar would trade his clothing with the Sioux for more Indian like clothing. During one of John’s visits with the Sioux he trades his American Soldier jacket for a beaded vest/shirt. Overtime John Dunbar would change his physical appearance to resemble the Sioux. As the movie continued John Dunbar grew out his hair, to more resemble the Sioux more with their long hair. Soon John Dunbar began living with the Sioux, during the winter he would wear buffalo skin for warmth instead of a coat. During John’s time with the Sioux, he gave up small things like his hat. When John first made it to his new post, he came across a wolf that kept showing up. He decided to name the wolf “Two Socks”. John Dunbar began to form a relationship with Two Socks. One day John Dunbar went to visit the Sioux and Two Socks followed him. Some of the Sioux Indians were watching John arrive from afar. John Dunbar realized that Two Socks was following him, he got off of his horse and he tried to chase him back home by running around with him. The Sioux that were watching him thought that it looked like John was dancing with Two Socks. They decided that they would call John “Dances with wolves”. John first learned of his new name when he was in a tent talking to Stands With a Fist and Wind in His Hair. Stands With a Fist was translating a conversation between John and Wind in His Hair when she brought up the name Dances With Wolves. John asked “Who is Dances With Wolves?” Stands With a Fist then explained that it was
