Dance Team Analysis

Freshmen year I joined the dance team and started my journey into an entirely new world. I had taken dance lessons since I was 5, but being on a team was different. It was more like a sisterhood. Over my high school career the dance team slowly fell into turmoil. Each year we lost people due to grades, injury, or the member simply graduated. I want my legacy to be the revival of the dance team. The end of Junior year led to the coaches leaving. This would be the third time the dance team would have a switch of hands in four years. However, this time, there would not be anyone willing to take on the position of coach. For the last couple months of school, and well into the summer, a couple of girls and I went around asking teachers and other employees if they would take on the position and had a school wide email sent out. They all said they either did not have the time or had no interest in dance. We even talked to administration about a parent coming to the school to be our sponsor, but they said that it would have to …show more content…
The others had either graduated or moved on to other activities. The coaches set up a meeting for us and only two of the girls came, myself included. It would later be discovered that we had the wrong number of the other girl. We had a mini tryout for the two of us and we both made the team. The coaches were new to everything so we provided a guiding hand and put in our own opinions on how we could make the team better. Freshman orientation came and we passed out fliers about our upcoming tryouts and talked to people about the team. The day seemed like a success. The school’s Facebook page posted about the tryouts and a recorded phone call was sent to all of the students. Tryouts had a bright outlook. At the end of tryouts the team totaled twelve people, the largest the team had ever been when I was on it. There was a lot of hard work to come, but it would be well worth

Loud beats, shouts and footsteps fill my ears, and an awful stench of sweat makes it’s way into my nose, but this dance studio is a special place nonetheless. It may seem hectic and rowdy to some people, but not to me. An environment I entered so cautiously at first started to become natural and safe. I had never thought I would spend so much time in this place doing something I loved. I would not forget how the first day went.…

The Alta-Aurelia Fusion Dance Team should get their own designated practice space. Usually, they are one of the last sports team in the Alta-Aurelia school to have access to the gym, cafeteria, and the old high school gym. During their practices, other sports teams routinely come in and kick the dance team out, cutting their practices short. It would cost a substantial amount of money to build an addition or modify existing space to allow for the dance team to have their own area. However, the team could have multiple fundraisers to come up with enough funds to build the space.…

My competitor and I are both the same because we produce tights of similar shades, but I have a larger variety but they have a lower price. Websites such as Discount Dance supply, dancewear solutions have a shades such as caramel, coffee, espresso, light/dark suntan and regular suntan[1]. This is only five shades and in the African American community, we come in more than five shades. Shades of Dance Inc. are our biggest competitors because they have already established what I am trying to do. They have seven shades of a darker skin tone, but they only carry convertible and footed tights at the price of $13.00.…

    The Dazzler Dance Team

Based off of my observations of the Dazzler Dance Team, the goals of each dance member range, but their basis for performing revolves around the meaning of the song and becoming the character the song is portraying through its lyrics. When introduced to a song that we would later be performing, we would all sit in a circle with our eyes shut and pretend we were the character the song was portraying. Through our own interpretation of the song’s lyrics, we would tune into that character and perform it for an audience.…

As a kid, I grew up with an instinct to lead. Whether it was group projects or games played during gym class, I was always the one to step up and lead my team. I used to adore being the one everybody asked questions to or being the team captain, but as I grew up, my leadership qualities began to fade. As this happened throughout the end of middle school and the beginning of high school, I wondered if I had lost my ability to step up and lead. This past year, I proved that to be incorrect.…

My annual hectic competitive dance showcase started this year as it always has, as a charged and passionate kickoff. That morning, I had been woken abruptly from my peacefully sound sleep by my deafening alarm clock. An obnoxious cry playing a song from the ‘Pitch Perfect’ soundtrack continued to sound until I was alert enough to lurch over and smash the stop button. I immediately made my bed and hopped into my warm-up outfit for the day. My mom had already been awake for some time and we we’re en route to the Milton Performing Arts Center, skipping my breakfast altogether, as this day had always rendered my appetite mute.…

In life, my youth and the people I grew up around influenced the adult I matured to be, from the hobbies I participated in, to my childhood best friends, they shaped me into the person I am today. I have danced my whole life, from competitive dance to my middle school dance team, which lead me to tryout for my high school drill team. Drill team and competitive dance are two very distinct things: competitive dance is stylized where movements are not uniform to the team, and everyone is independent and work hard for themselves, and to where drill team is militarized where you work together as a team, and not only respect your elders, but also your classmates, saying yes ma’am to anyone including the peers you attend school with everyday. At first…

Best summed up by an article from the Tab, “There is nothing like being on a dance team. It is one of those things – you can only fully comprehend it if you’re a part of one.” (Pandey,Secrets Everyone In A Dance Team Knows,The Tab) there are so many things that many people outside of the team do not know. Some people think it is easy and that we barely do anything, others are more knowledgeable, but will never truly understand. If you are contemplating trying out for the dance team you have a few things to learn or if you are part of the student body you also have a few things to learn. Dance is a hard sport and being a dancer you put in a lot of blood, sweat and tears to be out on the field or court for about two minutes.…
