Dance Team Analysis

Improved Essays
I still remember the feeling of being so extremely nervous, but also so ecstatic at the same time. I was wishing time would slow down as they called number after number, dance, after dance, and my turn was quickly approaching. I ran my dance through my head during my final moments backstage. I heard my dance teacher telling me good luck, and just try to have fun. I was not ready to walk out among the heat bearing lights.
It was June 24, 2015, and our competitive dance team had made it to nationals. Nationals is just like any other competition, minus the fact that this is where the all the winners from the regional competitions compete. This is the first time our team has gone to nationals, out of the five years I have been on this team.

Beginning my sophomore year of high school, I had the privilege to become a member of Alma Folklorica de Oklahoma. It is a Mexican folklorico dance group in which we perform different dances from different regions of Mexico. Through this group I have learned many lessons on what a leader does, who a leader is, and what being a leader looks like. Each year we have new members join, as senior members graduate out. Usually your first year as a member consists of learning regions, learning the costumes and accessories for each region, and looking up to the veteran members for any doubts we may have.…

In which, Cheerleading enhances the following: attention span, comprehension, organization, sequencing, increased endurance, postural control, and increases social skills. Over a course of a month we gathered to participate in the learning of cheers and a competition dance. The support the athlete’s family had showed during practices and competition was influential to not only their child or family member but to me, as a volunteer and as an Occupational Therapy Assistant Student.…

At that age, I wasn’t expected to be good it was more just for the “cute factor”. Right before we went on I was so nervous, and I remember when I first walked out in front of all those people I suddenly froze and was just memorized by all the lights shining directly into my eyes. After we danced I watched the older kids dance and I thought they were so cool because they all did their dance insync. From then on I wanted to be exactly like them…

Addison Gayle’s main argument is that if Blacks are not angry, then they are not Black, which is seen as de-Americanization. According to the literature from Gayle, “The black artist in the American society who creates without interjecting a note of anger is creating not as a black man, but as an American” (Gayle 1912). The misconception here is how readers view his claim peculiar because Blacks do not always have to be angry to prove that they are Black, as if Gayle is saying that being Black but not angry removes them from blackness. Blacks can be proud and not angry, right? The last thing Whites want to see from the Blacks that is stereotypical is anger because Black people are seen as savages, which is “double consciousness.”…

All the dancers that participated in it all had their own personal stories that they could relate to which made the dance so special. Everyone was truly happy to be performing and telling the story. Another thing that really worked well with the dance was all the different parts throughout the dance along with the formations. Never did I once get bored and drift off into space while that dance was on stage. The choreography was so dynamic and unique that you never knew what to watch because everything that was going on was so beautiful.…

“When your music begins, you will be in competition mode.” I took a deep breath, it was showtime. I was introduced to the world of competitive dance in August of 2011 and ever since, dance has been the outlet for all of my emotions. I started off as a shy little girl who hid in the corner, barely extending her limbs as I attempted to mock those in front of me. As time elapsed, I persevered through challenging ten hour practices and the taunting of my peers.…

Reminiscing back on the beginning of the season, I could see how terrified I had been. Although I was just in the ensemble, the pressure was still on my shoulders to perform to my best ability. Learning the dances and poses for A Thousand Cranes, I had followed the seniors exactly, right down to the way they curled their fingers or pointed their toes. I was petrified that if I did not do something precisely, I would be called out in front of the whole…

My mood was jubilant that day because I was glad I came to that performance instead of staying home. I would have felt home sick with all that final review so it was pleasant and peaceful having entertainment for such a low cost but great performance. The movements I identified were a lot of the terms I went over in dance class from degage to grand battement, the list goes all over. The name of the performance should be called “The Art of Adventure” and it should be divided into subgenres which focuses on the main theme adventure. Adventure can be dim or bright but they always seem to have a long lasting well produced ending.…
