There are different types that reality television falls into and some of these include; competition, talk shows and “real-life” situations. The reality television show that is under investigation is Dance Moms. This program falls under the category of competition and is one of the largest dancing competitions in America and very well known in Australia. People would appear on the show because they get to improve their dancing skills and they have a new challenge of winning the competitions every weekend.

During episode 4 of season 5, Maddie has to go to America to shoot a video clip with Sia and her mum can’t go because she has to look after Mackenzie (Maddie’s little sister). Maddie states that she misses her mum so much and that she wished she could be her. Mackenzie Ziegler is Maddie’s little sister and is always told that she should be like Maddie. This can be very disheartening for Mackenzie because she can’t be herself she has to be her sister. JoJo Siwa is very stuck up and thinks that she is the best out of the whole group she is obnoxious and rude. Miller said “Maddie’s shoes are big shoes to fill” and she stated “I can do it” very rudely. Another dancer is Kalani Hilliker, Kalani is a very talented and beautiful dancer who rarely gets told off and she is quiet about her opinions. Nia is always getting told off because she is messy but she tries really hard to please Abby and puts lots of effort into it. The last dancer is Kendall is a very good dancer who too is very shy, she puts lots of effort into everything but if she believes in anything else then she will say it.
