Dance Midterm Analysis

Dance Midterm: Why I’m Here The reasons why I decided to take an elective dance class this semester (and why I plan to take one next semester) actually stems back all the way into my previous school year. I am a transfer student, I went to IUPUI last year. I commuted to school every day and was really struggling with feeling positive and motivated. I struggle with a lot of anxiety and depression and because of that I tend to sleep a lot when overwhelmed. Luckily I was aware of my unhealthy state of being and I wanted to do something about it! I had often played around with the idea of taking a dance class, I wanted to as soon as I started collage, but then I chickened out because I was too self-conscious. The second semester I put IUPUI’s intro to modern dance class in my shopping cart but then I decided against it for a second time (again I was too self-conscious). Determined to break out of my depressed state and unhappy environment, I transferred to IU Blooming! I hoped that the transfer would force me to try new things, meet new people, and ultimately help me handle my depression. Now that I am actually sitting down and contemplating my motives, the main reason for taking this class is to have a healthier mind. I mean, I also want to be more flexible and I want …show more content…
It always looks so cool and it really interests me is how modern dance has roots in classical dance but still has its own rules and styles. I like contemporary dance too, it seems like an even further step from the classical types of dance. I watched a documentary about the choreographer Elizabeth Streb and how she created the Extreme Action Company, which really pushes the boundaries of dance, I’m not even sure if it would be considered modern, but that also made me more interested in modern dance and just dancing in

Scott Hastings is an Australian Ballroom dancer who has dreams of winning the Pan Pacific Grand Prix 5 dance Latin American championship. While he is a great dancer, he has become frustrated with the restrictions placed on the dance steps, which are far removed from The Passionate American dance styles that originally inspired the ballroom steps. The film opens with a dance competition, a montage of shots showing beautiful dance couples taking the floor, this is cut with close up shots of Miss Hastings who expresses her disappointment with Scott's behaviour during the competition. She states “ did I do something wrong? did I fail him as a mother?”…

Addison Gayle’s main argument is that if Blacks are not angry, then they are not Black, which is seen as de-Americanization. According to the literature from Gayle, “The black artist in the American society who creates without interjecting a note of anger is creating not as a black man, but as an American” (Gayle 1912). The misconception here is how readers view his claim peculiar because Blacks do not always have to be angry to prove that they are Black, as if Gayle is saying that being Black but not angry removes them from blackness. Blacks can be proud and not angry, right? The last thing Whites want to see from the Blacks that is stereotypical is anger because Black people are seen as savages, which is “double consciousness.”…

Chapter 13 was a great review of the healthcare system and overall best practices. I see my primary care physician yearly for physicals. One nice perk of the physical is the discount my health insurance provider, Cigna, gives me for completing it. I only wish massages were covered!…

During the lesson, each student could be seen by me at all times due to the specific arrangement I had them standing in on the dance space. This allowed for me to always be paying attention to how each student was behaving, participating, engaging, learning or in need of help. Specific things were observed from particular students throughout the whole activity. Some of these observations were that Ali needed some extra guiding through some of the dance steps, Molita had to be advised about safety to not get in other peoples space and Ethan had to be reminded to stay focus. All of these things were behaviour characteristics identified and were fixed essentially creating a more rich and safe learning area.…

Within the last century the health services have been stirring away from natural remedies with any medical case. Medication today is unbelievably better than what it was even twenty years ago, but that does not mean we need to ditch the holistic approach within the medical field. College students with depression and anxiety don’t always need antidepressants unless medically informed by a specialist. These students can use the holistic approach and try to learn to self-love, find confidence and make more “me” time. Some common natural remedies are yoga, talk therapy, exercising, taking vitamins, and many others.…

The formation of dance has lived on this world for many generations as we continue to pass through history. When I went to the wonderful performance at Pierce College I experienced a whole new perspective on dancing. The concert had many types of students performing mixed dance projects of all types like solos and duets. There was an average size of one to eight dancers per project which made it the ideal size for the concert. I really enjoyed the creativity and effort put into this performance.…

When it comes to my present activity level, a lot has changed from the beginning of this class. I have to say that before this class I never made physical activity a priority in my day. I counted walking to class as a form of physical activity, which it was, but not enough. I am a lazy person and would rather be laying around watching Netflix than going to the gym.…
