“Dancers are the athletes of God,” is what Albert Einstein said. He is absolutely right. Dance is a sport. That is what this article is going to prove to you during this essay. It will state reasons including that dance is a physical activity and requires skill, it is competitive, and dancers have to do everything that other athletes do.
First off, let’s look at the definition of “sport”. A sport is “an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess” according to dictionary.com. Dance fits this definition perfectly because you have to be good at dance to be a dancer (requiring skill) and it is a physical activity. Teenlife.blogs.pressdemocrat.com says “We condition every rehearsal, which includes a six minute plank, three hundred sit ups, fifty burpees, we run laps, and a lot more. We become complete athletes.” (teenlife.blogs.pressdemocrat.com). Dancers are just a fit as any football or soccer player. Throughout that night we have a thirty minute technique class where we do nothing but stretch, abs, and condition ourselves (kicks, leaps, turns, jumps). Then we have our 45 minutes of ballet which consists of plie (demi and grande), tendues, degages, rond de james, and grande batmas. Then we go on and do our ballet routine. Next we go to our tap, hip-hop, lyrical, jazz. If we have solo’s or extra routines (which I do) then we do all of that before all of that starts. Then I go back on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturdays. Then all of the practice leads up to competitions where all the hard work pays off. Some people may say that dance is an art rather than a sport. Both are true. Dance is a sport and an art. This is because though dancing as physically exhausting as it is, also tells a story. When you go to a dance competition or recital you can see people feeling something on stage and occasionally crying because of what they feel. When you go to a football or soccer game you see people running and getting tired but you don’t see any feeling because those sports don’t tell a story or mean something to someone like dance does to someone that
