Dance Concert Critique

The performers playing their instruments were outstanding. I was so amused by how well they played the music and made it sound like you were listening to it on a CD. Taken I have played my share of instruments, I could tell how much time and effort they put into their work everyday to make it better and fix all the little errors. The first piece they played was beautiful, “Concerto in d minor.” Michele Fiala who played the oboe and Christopher Fisher who was playing the piano, worked perfectly together. He started off quietly playing his piece and she joined in. I was amazed how long she could go without taking a breath, I can barely do five seconds, and she could play for twenty seconds at a time. “Concerto in d minor Presto” their final piece I recognized it from some movie or another play I have seen, one of my favorite pieces they played. …show more content…
5 for solo French Horn played by Kostas Tiliakos, I was confused. I thought the French horn was a longer trumpet looking-like instrument, but it looked like a longer version of the oboe/clarinet put together. He did a wonderful job playing his piece. I enjoyed watching him moving from his standing and do a little dance, but not losing his focus on his piece. He must know that piece very well to feel comfortable moving away from the stand and still recite every music note on the paper. How I interact with the work of art being performed or being presented is going to the show or seeing the artwork being performed. When I saw the show today, I interacted with the performers by clapping when their piece was done and giving them an audience to play for. I give my feedback on the piece and tell others my opinion on what I saw. Giving good feedback to others who haven't seen the artwork makes others want to go and see it themselves. By having others go see the performance or artwork it gives them another opportunity to play for another audience and have another time to perform their

I appreciated the effort and music the mariachi group gave in their performance. I noticed how the trumpet usually took the main role while the violins supported the trumpets voice, usually by pizzicato. The guitar and guitarrón were mainly the background music that played the same rhythm over and over. It made me realize the beauty of…

For the soloists, it was really powerful and seeing Dr. Sung Ae Lee move more than usual. The dynamics went loud to more loud, soft to loud, and slowly fades and pauses and chords strikes making a performance to be alive. There was a balance between the melody lines and the accompaniment giving a flowing sound and soothing tone. I enjoyed watching and hearing the cello for the first time with the piano were it accompaniments each other. There were no awful mistakes but the piece with the cello…

On November 12, 2015 I attended the Veterans Day Jazz free form concert held at CBC’s choir room. This was the first time I ever went through the music/art building and it was pretty cool. The choir room looked, well like a choir room; inspirational posters on the wall, instruments, sound system, etc. When I first walked into the room I was bit overwhelmed with the amount of people in the small to medium sized room. There was a total of three high schools performing and of course CBC.…

Overall I expected it to be a great performance, and it is safe to say my expectations were met. There was a lot of kids, and babies in attendance which I didn’t expect at all. The performance put on by the Orchestra was great. When the director of the orchestra entered the stage everyone in the audience gave him an applause as he starts to greet the audience, and talk about the performance. The projector behind the performers had videos, and drawings displayed that was turned into amination, and it brought the drawings to life while making the story more entertaining.…

The performance wasn’t classical music, it was jazz, but the smaller group had the same effect that I believed classical chamber music aimed to achieve. I can understand why the popularity of chamber music grew in the classical period. It was easier to connect with the performance when the entire setting felt more…

There were a few informational bits during the performance to help the audience understand the performers and their relationship with each other. The singer was actually a Bradley allum and had performed in the Hartmann Theater before. One of the songs was duet called “Hard Hearted Hannah” and the song was sang by Stephanie Aarons and one of the Trombonists. The Trombonist actually knew Aarons personally which gave the song a more intimate feel to it. There was also a guy who was playing the piano and played a song with Aarons.…

For my concert critique, I went to Jason Terry’s Doctoral Piano Recital on Tuesday, December 1st at the School of Music in room 206. Because Terry was able to pick the pieces he played, he picked a range of different pieces to emphasize his wide range of talent. He included older and modern pieces including Bach, Godowsky, Balakirev, Zorn, and Liszt. The first piece he played was “Prelude & Fugue, BWV 872” composed by Bach. I was a little unsure about the nature and form of this piece because it was unlike some of the more structured pieces we listen to in class.…

It's my pleasure to attend piano recital on the Friday evening, February Twenty-Third at Recital Hall. The performer, Gregory Wang, who was a senior of Jacobs school of music, and this was his graduation recital. And also, Gregory Wang, he is my teacher of my Beginning Piano Class I (P110). He performed two pieces of music, which were Sonata No.2 in D Major, Op. 94a by Sergei Prokofiev in 1943 and Trio in E-Flat Major, Op.40 by Johannes Brahmas. By the way, Sonata No.2 in D Major, Op. 94a has four individual movements, which are Moderato, Scherzo: Presto, Andante, Allegro con brio.…

Moreover, since it was a solo performance, there was no communication among performers. Even though I could not see the performer because he was hide behind the organ, I could feel that I was putting a lot of energy in this piece to make it dramtic. Just by the way he would hit the peddles it resound in the Hall. The musical composition I liked the least was Prélude et fugue en mi mineur composed by Johann Sebastian Bach.…

During my ongoing business conference to Colorado to learn about future career opportunities for my dual degrees in Communication design and Computer Science, I got to attend an orchestra concert presented by the Hapless Heroes who were conducted by Leslie Stewart. The show was musical theatre where they had a live orchestra playing in front of the stage while the actors explained the Greek tale of Orpheus and Eurydice. I attended this amazing show on the 4th of December. I love learning about Greek Mythology so I was already enthusiastic about attending this show.…

andI also appreciated that they weren’t all just brass and woodwind instruments like you would find in a high school band. Some instruments that I took note of were the two harps, two bass’, six cellos, some viola’s, and many violins. There were also tubas, oboes, bassoons, and a grand piano. Before the performance started, a student who was performing stood up and walked to the conductor’s stage, and tuned all of the…

The performance attempted to give a dark but loving story which will keep you amused throughout the whole concert. I learned a lot about the choreographers in the performance by the way they presented themselves. Presentation means a lot and the way they proceeded was professional. The dance was successful to a point where everyone in the audience was thrilled and amazed from the performance. Practice makes perfect and the only way to improve is to try and do it over and over…
