This dance event hosted by the department of theater and dance at Montclair State University was a spectacular event that you would not want to miss. This dance event ,that took place in Alexander Kasser Theater, had six dances and one dance film. My favorite thing about the dances were the effort that all the students put into it and all the light action. Also the costume were amazingly designed and flowed with the themes of every individual dance. The name of the event is Danceworks 2016. This took place on March thirty-first through April third. The day I attended the event was Sunday April third, and it was a great way to continue my day. It began with the premier of Static Friction which is a ballet performance of all girls. This dance consisted of a quartet which consists of two duets. This contemporary dance was created by Christian von Howard. What I loved the most about this piece was the scenery which was unique. They danced inside of a square created by light, and had an exit that caught the peoples attention. Even though the dancers did not come from there they did walk off stage using the curtains and parting ways. This dance incorporated romance, love, elegance, and feelings. Both of the duets had a man and a woman in them and they both danced and connected with each other in a elegant romantic way. This dance is so well performed that it made me feel like I needed to go share my love with someone else. The stage was very simple, but simple is always elegant. The lighting helped created a moody style for the dancers and helped the audience feel the same way. This dance only used a small amount of space on stage. The energy of the dancers can be seen thought their performance. The energy on stage felt so positive and great. I really fell in love with this performance from the time that it began till the time that it was over. I was so happy when I saw them perform his. I really don 't know how to express it in words the way I felt, but it just felt great watching these dancers create such beautiful …show more content…

“Training as the medium through which”, chapter 3, written by Melanie Bales is a chapter that is written on the theme of self-discovery and how as dancers we could apply the ideas to ourselves. Melanie Bales is a professor at Ohio State where she graduated from Interlochen Arts Academy. Bales also studied at the Joffrey School and was a Harkness Ballet Trainee. Throughout this article, I experienced different things for myself when going through and reading each section. A lot of references that were stated in the book allowed me to see dance through a whole new perspective.…

As the piece progressed, this formation did not vary, other than to switch lines. Once on stage, I would describe the music to be happy, lively and carnival like. The dancers threw confetti onto the audience and began their overly dramatic variations of shimmying and hip thrusting. These movements were highly sexualized as each seemed to have been choreographed in order to make the dancer’s body shake. The dancers constantly switched between frontal and backward facings, displaying the entirety of the female body.…

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of visiting the exhibit Diaghilev and the Ballet Russes, 1909-1929: When Art Danced with Music at the National Gallery of Art. But this was not my first experience with this exhibit, no for I had the opportunity to perform in honor of this exhibit this past summer where I performed right outside the entrance the to the showcase. I performed the roles of the Faun in Vaslav Nijinsky’s Afternoon of a Faun, and Prince Ivan in The Firebird.…

I arrived at this conclusion based on the movements of the dancers. The dancers momentary movements juxtaposed to create a complete unified effect. The style of contemporary dance is used for this performance. Dancers displayed a combination of dance styles with strong emphasis on ballet. Like the previous performance, lots of floor work was incorporated into this performance.…

It was choreographed by Brooke Cherry. Dancers, ages around 9 10, were wearing blue dresses with white polkadots and as a prompt everyone had a broom. At the beginning one by one started popping out and standing up as they were all down on the floor before the music started. Movement was very synchronized which means that all girls were doing the same thing. The name of the dance “Dear Future Husband” was the name of the song used for this performance.…

The music was loud and I had to put earplugs in just to make it through the performance. The dancers were clapping their hands, posing, as the 80’s music played. The female performer with the purple and gold dress had a great catwalk. She was one of the best performers in that piece. “Intervertebral” by Cari K. Cunningham was really good.…

The music was another language and it really contrasted with the movement, bt it still looked good. The performance was intricate, but there weren’t repetition or similarities. There aren't any specific motifs, but the style was very the same. The dance consisted of elongations of the legs or arms. The dancers really know how to use every part and inch of their body to make the dance come alive.…

    Harlem Dancer Analysis

Addison Gayle’s main argument is that if Blacks are not angry, then they are not Black, which is seen as de-Americanization. According to the literature from Gayle, “The black artist in the American society who creates without interjecting a note of anger is creating not as a black man, but as an American” (Gayle 1912). The misconception here is how readers view his claim peculiar because Blacks do not always have to be angry to prove that they are Black, as if Gayle is saying that being Black but not angry removes them from blackness. Blacks can be proud and not angry, right? The last thing Whites want to see from the Blacks that is stereotypical is anger because Black people are seen as savages, which is “double consciousness.”…

The school auditorium is filled with proud parents and the glow of several hundred screens poised to capture the moment their precious stars take the stage. The music starts and a dozen little girls and boys start twirling and craning their necks to watch their dance instructor coach them from the wings. Most of their parents aren't concerned with the dance training their children are receiving. A friend of a friend told them about "Dolly Dinkle's Dance Academy" and so they signed little Susie up,bought her a pink leotard, and told her to have fun at dance class. However, "Dolly Dinkle" is not a qualified dance instructor.…

It was founded in 1994 by Sherese Campbell, who choreographed and artistically directed the show. There was one dance that caught my attention and it dealt with mass incarceration in America. Four female dancers, all different ethnicities, were dressed in dark teal prison jumpsuits. They all formed a box in the center of the stage, with their backs diagonally facing each other. During certain parts of their performance, the ladies met each other in the center and had unified legwork.…

Every pirouette and grande jeté felt so liberating and suddenly, I was dancing the final steps in the choreography. After my solo was complete, I curtsied, concluding my performance. The audience cheered as I bowed, making all of the endless rehearsals, challenging corrections and taxing preparations worthwhile. As a young girl, who simply twirled in a circle until she was dizzy, I couldn’t have imagined my ballet technique would lead to opportunities such as this. Although I didn’t always love the challenging aspects of ballet, I have grown to find passion, self-confidence and excitement through the art form.…
