The joys that I have found in achieving my goals and performing in front of large crowds in incomparable to any other sensation; however, the pressures surrounding ballet have certainly gotten to me in the past. It was very difficult to keep up with my schoolwork while meeting the expectations of my teacher at the studio. After a challenging day at school, I have sometimes faced even more challenges in ballet class. This could be in messing up a certain step, disappointing myself, or facing an injury. Meeting the expectations has been the most difficult part of ballet for me as they have been especially demanding of me since I first joined their classes. I have always appreciated being pushed toward improvement, but I must admit that sometimes I have felt the need for a break. These desires to temporarily surrender have often come at the time of injury. I have had broken bones in my feet and have still performed pointe pieces; I have dislocated and fractured my knee during a performance and was immediately scolded for not staying onstage and finishing the dance. What this has taught me is that sometimes it is very necessary to disappoint others in order to get better and insure the future success of your
