Fear and immaturity were once snags that prevented me from committing to a professional path in the allied health. It plagued and produced gaffes during my undergraduate studies at Stony Brook University which then led me to put the desire on hold. In hindsight, it was the best decision because discovering and developing myself as a person was necessary before achieving any kind of future success.
After college, I entered a Master’s program in Statistics/Actuarial Science at Columbia University. It was there that I fortified my strengths in quantitative reasoning and where I credit my aptitude for problem solving. Unfortunately, my excitement for analytics ended there. Instead, it was my random decision to enroll in a dance class during that same time that led to the realization of what truly fulfilled my spirits.
My love for dance stems from the humanity it possesses. Constantly examining and revealing one’s self was something I had no prior experience in so I treasured it instantaneously. With the hope that it incorporates the sense of humanity that dance gives, as well as elements from the sciences and mathematics, I feel that the field of nursing perfectly captures this. Together with my reinvented self and the varying strengths I have acquired over the years, I am confident with my decision to be a nurse and convinced that Accelerated BSN Program at SUNY Downstate is the best place to foster this goal. I sense that the program appreciates passionate individuals from all walk of life and values their varying skills.
