Born into a relatively small family, I cultivated a close bond with my one and only older sister Alicia. I admired her in every way a little sister could.
Saturday mornings I’d watch her slip on her tap shoes and flaunt her new dance moves she learned at dance class. I quickly acquired a pair for myself to copy her. We clanked, shuffled, and stomped, enjoying the various sounds our feet produced.
Those Saturdays disappeared to mere memories once my sister was diagnosed with leukemia. She was isolated in a hospital bed for almost three years. Knowing that dance was her dream, I continued taking classes, learning as much as I could, and teaching her from her hospital bed until the day she was acclaimed cancer free. …show more content…
It illustrates all aspects of human emotion, interaction, and feelings and is something I have seen appreciated at all ages, skill levels, and abilities. With Alicia in mind, I helped organize and participate in a Dancers Against Cancer fundraiser with classes held at South County Dance with various guest choreographers. We gave all the money from the cost of classes and teacher’s paychecks as donations to the foundation. Dance has allowed me to serve others and bring others joy; I could not be more grateful for the healthy body God has blessed me with to develop and share my passion that my sister set in
