The mission of the CNTC is to transform cancer therapy by enabling the early detection of cancer using nanoparticles and molecular imaging, as well as by developing new treatments with tumor- targeting technology. Specifically, the major activities of the center will focus on identifying unique biomarkers that could be targeted with nanoparticles themselves or antibody-labeled nanoparticles, and captured with …show more content…
Dr. Barrett Rollins, Chief Scientific Officer, is experiencing issues with some of the employees, specifically Charlie Woods, the CNTC leader. Charlie Woods is a great scientist, but does not have the leadership skills to be CNTC leader. He and Rollins frequently disagree on how the CNTC should be run. He methods are haphazard, and he fails to comply with the fund allocation method. Robert Maher, senior member of the faculty and chair of the Oversight Committee, and Diana Cohn, member of the CNTC’s Board of Trustees and chair of the board’s Scientific Committee add pressure to the organization’s recent …show more content…
The organization has no pursue or strategic plan and faculty members fail to hold themselves accountable. A mismatch exists between scientists and management as the scientists choose to pursue their self-interests instead of collaborating with others for the good of the organization. Different groups have differing goals, focus and time horizons, which causes major conflict (Robbins & Judge, 2018). Project management, especially with Woods, is subpar, and the Institute struggles to gain the necessary funding and grants. Overall, there is mistrust of the established system, which is causing public dissatisfaction. The conflict is dysfunctional, which is making the group less effective, which will lead to the destruction of the
