Before starting my Master’s Program I always thought that the brain developed as a baby and child but once an individual reached adulthood, the brain was pretty much formed. The understanding that the brain can continue to grow and restructure is revolutionary. Integration is the linkage of differentiated parts including the brain, memory, and relationships. The quickest summary of a secure, healthy attachment between parent and child is built when the parent honors the differences between himself and the child and promotes linkages of compassionate communication. The take home message is that when relationships are integrated the brain becomes integrated.
