(After an hour or two of enjoying the view, Damon faces Elena)

Damon: "You in the mood for a swim?"

(Elena turns to Damon weirdly)

Elena: "There's no lake around here."

(Damon rolls his eyes in frustration)

Damon: "Do you ever come anywhere else but here?"
Elena: (shakes her head) "No." (shrugs) "Well, okay, the library occasionally."
Damon: (raises his eyebrows & smirks) "Ah, so you DO go to other places besides here."
Elena: (scoffs) "Shut up. I said occasionally, meaning not very often."
Damon: (shrugs) "When was the last time you went?"
Elena: "A few weeks ago. Before I go to bed at night, I like to read."

(Damon looks at her in fascination. He didn't know she liked to read. Then again, he didn't think to ask. He was kind of curious

Every now and then I'll read 'People' magazine." (smirks) "Or 'Sports Illustrated'."
Elena: (rolls her eyes) "Let me guess. For all the hot babes."
Damon: (scoffs) "Of course."

(He stole a private glance at her. He would never admit it to her, but he wouldn't mind seeing her in there. He quickly shakes his head to squash the thought from his mind. She looks at him and softly scoffs)

Elena: "Of course you'd say that. You're a guy."
Damon: "Last time I checked, I was. And the only time I may glance at it is if I see it lying around at home. My brother gets it in the mail." (chuckles) "I haven't seen a woman around the house in awhile, so I guess the magazine is a substitute."
Elena: "What's your brother's name?"
Damon: "Stefan. Do you have any brothers or sisters?"
Elena: (shrugs) "I have a brother named Jeremy."

(Damon noticed from the way she answered his question, it didn't make her sound happy. He remembered when she commented before that her family ignores her. He didn't understand why as she wasn't that bad. He debated whether to ask about her family to see if she'd say anything. Of course, he wouldn't blame her if she didn't considering he didn't like to talk about his family. He decided to take a

Why not? When do we go?"
Damon: (shrugs) "How about right now?"

(At Elena's nod, they both get up and get into the truck. Elena checks out the scenery and can't help the slight smile from forming. She doesn't remember the last time she went swimming and she had to admit the more she got to know Damon, the more she was enjoying herself)

(While she doesn't exactly like his humor sometimes, she admitted to herself she liked spending time with him. Her family came to mind and she had a sad face. She pretended it didn't bother her that they didn't really show an interest in her. Yet privately, it hurt her feelings. She saw many close families together. Unfortunately, hers wasn't one of them. The only bright side is she made a new friend)

(She faced Damon, who smiled at her before concentrating on the road. Granted, she didn't know him very well, so she just saw it as an adventure. She had to admit it felt nice that she wasn't the only one that didn't get along with her family. Maybe soon, they would both be able to open up more about their troubled family
