Damon's Path To Purpose Analysis

Improved Essays
It is difficult for a person to pinpoint what their purpose is. I see my purpose as making a difference in someone else’s life, whether it is a complete stranger, someone in my family, or an animal even. It does not have to be the biggest gesture, but it would be rewarding to help out in whatever way I can. In Damon’s Path to Purpose, he states that, “...absorption in purposeful tasks may be strenuous, it also brings a deep sense of satisfaction, well-being, and exhilaration.” I know that it is not easy to fulfill a purpose, however, I also know that no matter how hard it gets or how long it takes, the end results will be rewarding.

It does not have to be the highest paying job, but I have to be able to go into work every day and be happy that I am there. This goal is not only for me, but for my grandpa also. He stepped up and took a fatherly role in my life over the years, and without him I would not be the person I am today. I want to show him that he did not waste his time and money on me, and that I can become someone that he is proud of. He made the biggest difference in my life, and I want the chance to do the same for him. I also want to make a difference in someone else’s life as my grandpa did for …show more content…
When my family adopted another cat, we went to a shelter and there had to be at least thirty dogs and fifty cats in the facility. I wanted to cry when I went there, because those animals did not have a loving home, and it was challenging to pick just one cat to take home. It made me start thinking about volunteering my time at a shelter to give more attention to the animals that need it. Then, a couple years later, my grandpa did not buy the right dog food, and instead of returning it, I donated it to our local shelter. When I went there, they posted a sign saying they were at full capacity. It broke my heart to think that there were stray animals out there that did not have a shelter to go to. Those instances gave the goal to buy a large piece of land when I had the money and make it home for as many strays as possible. My goals come from different experiences in life, and they will help me achieve my purpose by making a difference in someone else’s life. For me, a little kindness goes a long way and kindness can make the biggest difference in life. I not only value kindness and compassion, but family and education. Without those values, I cannot fulfill my purpose in life of helping others. I do not want to become a person that leaves the world without making it better than when I entered it. With my values and goals, I will not become that

For my sixty hours of volunteer work I decided to volunteer at a Child Life Center which was in a poverty stricken area in Norfolk, Va. At the child life center my job as a volunteer was to assist the children with their homework, help the staff monitor the children on local field trips, as well as serve as a positive role model for the children. The experience I had at Park Place Child Life Center was one I will honestly never forget. Although I didn’t get any actual counseling experience, I was able to learn the ways that the non-profit organization received their funding, I was able to gain experience in working with the youth, and I was also able to make a positive impact on the lives of children who were considered “at-risk youth”. To go there every day and be able to see the change the children had in their behaviors and how much just some attention and affection from adults impacted their behaviors was honestly amazing.…

My Purpose of Existence In all the essays that I have made throughout my academic life, I think this has been the most difficult question to answer or a difficult topic to ponder on. Maybe some have an idea of their purpose because they already know their passion, but some do not really know what their life is all about. Our last year’s topic was Existential Therapy and my professor once asked that why are we doing this when in fact, we are mortal beings? While I am thinking of my purpose, I also thought of asking myself the same question.…
